Welcome to Lamin Health Center

LHC is a clinic in the heart of Lamin, The Gambia. The hospital is run by 42 well-trained local staff under Dutch management. International doctors specializing in tropical medicine in developing countries, among others, guarantee optimal care. LHC is a non-profit organization, collaborating with the Dutch Humanitarian Aid Foundation Gambia and the Gambian NGO A27.

The Gambia is a former British colony and one of the poorest countries in the world. It is also the smallest country in Africa and has a weak economy. Many people are very poor, live in appalling conditions with poor hygiene, often without electricity and running water, and are malnourished due to an unbalanced diet.

Statistics show that life expectancy among the 1.9 million inhabitants of The Gambia is about 20 years less than in Europe. In addition to hypertension, diabetes, infectious diseases, malnutrition and malaria, there is a high infant mortality. On average, 48 out of 1,000 babies die at birth and about 125 children do not reach the first year of life. At Lamin Health Center we work every day for the health of the Gambians who entrust their care to us.

Helping out the underprivileged

Our main goal is to provide optimal inpatient and outpatient care and guidance in a safe and hygienic environment. In recent years, a lot of work has been done on professionalization in various areas, such as care-related aspects and the management of business processes.

Lamin Health Center is housed in a facility commissioned by the Children of Lamin Foundation, managed from the Netherlands in 2014, built by Gambians, and co-sponsored by the MRC-Holland Foundation and the Wilde Ganzen Foundation. These organizations want to contribute to a better life for the underprivileged in the world or in The Gambia specifically. After completion, the building was handed over to the Lamin Village community. Lamin Health Center is the only clinic in the village with over 45,000 inhabitants. On average, more than 25,000 patients from the region, often very distressing cases, come for a medical consultation and about 2,500 (expectant) mothers visit the consultation office for a pregnancy check-up and / or free vaccination of their baby. The Gambia does not have any kind of social insurance system. In order to make healthcare as accessible as possible, we try to keep the fee as low as possible.
